Become a Docent

Some of our patrons have more knowledge about the automobiles in the Hendricks Collection than many of us do – they have lived through decades of changes in body styles, materials used and the fall of manufacturers. They impress us with their knowledge and their passion. Others view the collection from an artistic perspective and see the vehicles as phenomenal sculptures representative of the history of independence found on the open roads. Still others openly reminisce about the car they used to drive and sold for $500, or the car they went on their first date in, or fondly remember the car their grandfather used to pick them up in to go to town for an ice cream. All stories they love to share. There is passion to be found in the Gateway Colorado Automobile Museum and often it is the passion of our volunteers that you hear first hand.

If you have been through the Museum and have even brought others back several times to share the excitement – you may be interested in volunteering through our docent program. You have the opportunity to share your passion, learn even more about the collection and benefit from some fantastic benefits we share with our docents.

Our docents are able to ride the shuttle from Grand Junction or the Nucla-Naturita area and back, are provided with a sporty red Auto Museum polo, enjoy lunch on us while here, receive lots of educational materials on the collection and have the same privileges at Gateway Canyons Resort as our employees while here volunteering! Most docents work 1 to 2 days a month.

We are fortunate to have an amazing (and growing) group of docents (volunteers) and look forward to expanding our docent family.
